WASC 9 Standards
1. Institutional Integrity
Addresses
the fundamental principles that guide research, teaching, service,
and discussions within colleges and universities, especially academic
freedom, honesty, active learning, and diversity.
2. Institutional Purpose,
Planning & Effectiveness
Seeks to ensure
that universities and colleges have clearly stated purposes that
define its character are appropriate for higher education and are
consistent with Commission standards. Engages in systematic and
reflective planning and self-assessment
3. Governance &
Administration
Addresses the role
of the college or university's governing board, administration,
faculty, staff and students in institutional governance. Organizes
the administration and resources to serve institutional purposes
effectively.
4. Educational Programs
Focuses on the achievement
and maintenance of quality of the institutions undergraduate and
graduate educational programs. Specific issues include academic
planning; curricular structure and coherence; evaluation of student
learning; assessment; integration of research, service, teaching;
admissions and retention.
5. Faculty & Staff
Emphasizes the responsibilities
of faculty for academic programs and quality. It also addresses
personnel policies, faculty and staff development, and the size
and adequacy of the work force
6. Library, Computing
& Other Learning Resources
Ensures that an institution's
library and computer resources adequately support education, research
and scholarship.
7. Student Services
& the Co-Curricular Learning Environment
Covers the out-of-the-classroom
environment for students, including co-curricular programs, athletics,
counseling and advising, and other support services. Supports
a conscious attention to diversity consistent with institutional
purposes. Demonstrates a regard for the rights and responsibilities
of students.
8. Physical Resources
Underscores the need
for the physical environment and campus facilities to support
teaching, learning and scholarship. It also addresses the need
for facilities planning.
9. Financial Resources
Directs attention to
the financial condition of the institution, including the adequacy
of its resources; financial planning and budgeting practices;
financial management, organization, and reporting; and fund raising
activities.
