CONTINUOUS COURSE REVIEW

What changes can be made via Continuous Course Review?
During 2009-2010 there will be a limited Continuous Review process of new courses, new program proposals and curriculum modifications, still available through the Academic Programs Office and Academic Senate Curriculum Committee.  Due to the budget crisis, the office and the committee must prioritize working on projects to improve graduation rates, progress to degree, curricular transparency, change of major guidelines, and other topics that will help avoid faculty lay-offs next year.

We will only review proposals this year where there is a compelling need and as time permits.. Examples of compelling need include:

  • new courses needed for accreditation purposes,
  • new courses to accompany grants,
  • new courses proposed by new faculty as part of their professional plans,
  • new courses to increase curriculum transparency and through-put,
  • course modifications that affect other programs but increase curriculum transparency and through-put; and
  • curriculum proposals that increase transparency and decrease units to graduation.

Consequently, except in cases where there is a compelling reason, no new GE course proposals--or proposals for substantive changes to current GE courses--will be considered in 2009-10.

Please discuss your new ideas with Mary Whiteford, David Conn, and/or Dave Hannings before submission.

Who reviews and approves of these changes?
Department curriculum chair, department chair/head, college curriculum chair, college dean, Academic Senate Curriculum Committee, Academic Senate, Vice Provost for Academic programs.

When will these changes become effective?
After new courses have been approved, they may become effective with the next available class scheduling term.
