Bruno Giberti, Ph.D.
Associate Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Planning
Accreditation Liaison Officer
As the Associate Vice Provost, Bruno Giberti leads the office of Academic Programs and Planning, which is responsible for the annual process of academic planning, the development and implementation of academic policies, the development and review of academic programs, and the assessment of student learning. He oversees the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology and the Writing and Rhetoric Center, as well the General Education, University Honors, Instructionally Related Activities, and Service Learning Faculty Fellows programs.
As the Accreditation Liaison Officer, he manages the university’s regional accreditation and serves as the primary point of contact with the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). He has also played a leadership role in strategic planning for the university and the division of Academic Affairs, as well as Cal Poly’s response to the CSU’s Graduation Initiative 2025.
Prior to assuming the post of Associate Vice Provost, Bruno had a long history with this office. From 2007 – 2010, Bruno served as Faculty Director of Cal Poly’s self-study for WSCUC. With the university’s accreditation reaffirmed for ten years, he took positions as Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology and Associate Head of the Architecture Department. In 2012, he rejoined our staff as Faculty Associate for Academic Policies, Assessment, and Accreditation. He has been the Associate Vice Provost since 2017.
Bruno is a proud Cal Poly alumnus, and after graduating with a B.S. in Architecture, he was awarded a Master of Architecture and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jessica Carson, MBA
Academic Policies, Budget, and Instructionally Related Activities
Jessica joined our office in February 2008. She manages the budget, supports Instructionally Related Activities (IRAs), and is the contact for academic policy questions and student academic appeals.

Andrew Morris, Ph.D.
Professor of History
Andrew is serving as Faculty Fellow in Academic Programs and Planning during the 2019-20 academic year. He is working on the Thematic Pathway for Reaffirmation of Cal Poly’s WSCUC accreditation, academic program review, and the project to implement the Accessible Technology Initiative. He is also representing Academic Programs and Planning on the General Education Governance Board and the Academic Senate Double Major Policy Task Force.
Andrew, who is in his twentieth year on the Cal Poly faculty, is Professor and past Department Chair of the History Department, specializing in modern Chinese and Taiwanese history. He has authored two books and 25 journal articles and book chapters, and also edited two volumes in these fields. Andrew graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a double major in physics and history, and his Ph.D. in modern Chinese history is from UC San Diego.

Michael V. Nguyen, Ph.D.
Director of Academic Assessment
Michael is an educational psychologist with expertise in the areas of assessment, diversity and inclusion, and cross-cultural communication. As the Director of Academic Assessment, he provides leadership and direction for Cal Poly’s continuous learning and improvement efforts by communicating the purposes of assessment, assisting departments and colleges in the development of assessment plans, and analyzing and communicating the results of assessments conducted. Additionally, Michael guides in the collection, organization, and analysis of multiple data sources and disseminating the information among Cal Poly constituents and stakeholders
Prior to joining Cal Poly, Michael created and headed the inaugural Office of Assessment at California State University, San Bernardino. Additionally, Michael is a faculty member in the Department of Applied Psychology at the University of Southern California where he teaches Cross-Cultural Psychology in Applied Settings.
Michael completed his PhD at Emory University. He was an Emory Global Health Institute Scholar who served as an educator and researcher for indigenous and underserved populations. He received the President’s Fellowship at Pitzer College, Emory University Graduate Diversity Fellowship, and Distinguished Research and Assessment Award from Cal State San Bernardino.

Executive Assistant to the Associate Vice Provost and Personnel Analyst
Maureen joined our office in January 2018. As Executive Assistant, Maureen is the first point of contact for the Associate Vice Provost. In this capacity, she also assists with human resources and personnel issues in the departments reporting to Academic Programs and Planning. Maureen also provides the lead support as we begin the process to reaffirm Cal Poly's accreditation by WSCUC.

Program Review and New Program Development coordinator
Angela joined our team in September 2019 and comes to us following an extensive career in law, having worked as a senior paralegal handling the management of the defense of public school districts and governmental entities in state and federal court. Angela coordinates academic program review for the campus as well as new program development. In addition, she supports our Associate Deans’ Council.

Shannon Sullivan-Danser, M.A.
General Education, University Assessment, & Communications coordinator
Shannon joined the office in September 2018 with a background working with executives in finance, healthcare, publishing, and high school administration. She supports the Associate Vice Provost in matters related to General Education (GE) and the assessment of student learning. In GE, she supports the GE Governance Board and chair; researches GE policies, procedures, whether at the state, CSU, or Academic Senate level; and coordinates efforts related to programmatic development, particularly as it relates with GE 2020. Shannon also works closely with the Director of Academic Assessment and coordinates projects related to the university's comprehensive academic assessment plan, analysis and communication of results, and professional development. Additionally, she helps maintain the Academic Programs and Planning, General Education, accreditation, and ULO Project websites. Shannon is a double alumnae from Cal Poly, earning honors in her undergraduate and graduate degrees in English.
